I feel like PVP lag issues ought to be fully addressable.

I'm going to paste something I wrote in another thread: I also still see issues where you switch to a new Pokemon, nothing happens for a bit, and then suddenly your new Pokemon is down a significant chunk of health and the opponent is doing a charge move. They've dropped the ball so many times that it's entirely possible that they're not even doing the 'easy' things right. I think we're more likely looking at poor coding, but who knows with Niantic. You can get server space 'on-demand', and only pay for what you use to major established companies (e.g., Amazon Web Services). Servers are cheap these days, and you do not need to commit to large servers anymore. Server issues should be the easiest thing to fix, though. There may be server problems on top of that, but it could simply be the code.

The only thing they actually put strong effort into are their AR innovations (which are actually fairly impressive). Niantic is a team that throws things together with the least amount of cost. It's impossible to identify the efficiency of their netcode without actually having it available, but I imagine it follows similar trends to everything we have been able to view. Historical issues and their UI design have shown that they have no eye for efficiency (think about your list of pokemon, and how you have to view 2000+ at once, instead of being able to sort and only show a fraction of that at a time). Poor coding practices can absolutely lead to inefficiencies that bog down the game - replicating server / lag symptoms.

We've been dealing with their spaghetti code since the game's inception. It's at least the first one, and potentially also the second. Connection issues might not be an easy fix, but if that is the case, the rating system should be adjusted to accommodate for that.
