Although P2P architecture can significantly improve scalability, it has severe management complexity challenges.

Therefore, resource provisioning for this demands is very challenging and the scalability of these systems depends on spending a high cost on preparation new resources or taking the advantage of users' abilities in the form of a peer-to-peer (P2P) system. In fact, streaming HD videos with minimum initial buffering time and interruption forms the QoE backbone.

This traffic is the result of increasing video applications, also the high expectations of today users. Recent reports and forecasts indicate video is the most important part of the internet traffic. Finally, in order to complete the study we present the MOS results for VoIP calculated from the delay and packet loss rate.

Besides, it has been necessary to describe the packet loss distribution by means of a histogram since, although most of the communications present good QoS results, a few of them have worse outcomes. It has been found that the cause of this quality degradation is buffer overflow, which depends on the bandwidth relationship between the access and the internal networks. In some cases, especially when applications generating bursty traffic are present, increasing the network speed may lead to a deterioration in the quality. Various tests have been developed with the aim of characterizing the problems that may appear when network capacity is increased in these scenarios. Secondly, the study shows that the bursty nature of the traffic in some applications traffic (video surveillance) may impair their QoS and that of other services (VoIP and videoconferencing), especially when a certain number of bursts overlap.

First, we show how in a typical SME (Small and Medium Enterprise) network in which several multimedia flows (VoIP, videoconferencing and video surveillance) share access, the upgrade of the bandwidth of the internal network may cause the appearance of a significant amount of packet loss caused by buffer overflow. In particular, we study how these features can affect the Quality of Service (QoS) of multimedia applications when generating traffic bursts in local networks. This work presents an analysis of the buffer features of an access router, especially the size, the impact on delay and the packet loss rate. Simulation results show that HLPSP outperforms DenaCast in terms of startup delay, end-to-end delay, play-back delay and data loss. Extensive simulations using OMNET++ are conducted to investigate the efficiency of HLPSP in terms of relevant performance metrics, and position HLPSP with respect to DenaCast the enhanced version of the well-known CoolStreaming protocol. In this paper, we propose a Hybrid Live P2P Streaming Protocol (HLPSP) based on a hybrid overlay multicast that integrates the efficiency of both the tree and mesh structures. On the other hand, content freshness, playback fluidity and streaming continuity are still challenging issues that require viable solutions. While a tree overlay structure confines transmission delays efficiently by maintaining deterministic delivery paths, an overlay mesh structure provides adequate resiliency to peers dynamics and easy maintenance. The efficiency of live Peer-to-Peer (P2P) streaming protocols depends on the appropriateness and the management abilities of their underlying overlay multicast.
